Match of the Day 2 Before Match of the Day Extra
Hi, it’s Greenygrey. Are you ready for the second-half of the Crows v Redbacks AusRuIcket game. Well, better get settled, because it’s kicking off soon.
Funnily enough, you know how there wasn’t a Match of the Day highlights programme on the weekend because of the F.A. Cup games cancelling out the English Premier League fixtures; well, there is one tonight, as there’s a full midweek EPL fixture list. So this is the Oz Match of the Day before the traditional Match of the Day.
Anyway, that’s enough of the pre-match discussion, on with the game:
44. SECOND-HALF OF THE GAME IS NOT THE SAME…OR LAME
The whistle blew to start the half,
our attack was higher than any Redback giraffe.
A new urgency. Down the wing, on the wing;
you should have heard the Crow llamas sing:
We love Crows, We love Crows. Because,
we flew on a Mexican wave from Andes to Oz.
Russell Crow put in a perfectly flighted cross, Sheryl Crow knocked it down for me on a sixpence, and I slotted it in. It was a dream start to the second half, and we were back on track. There was no time to crow about it though; we had a game to win.
Twenty minutes later, Bob Crow pulled another one back with a short snap strike, leaving the Redbacks defence red-faced as well as red-backed.
Crows were back in the game, but it’s a funny old name
But just as everything looked hunky dory
Ted Hughes Crow had to go off with poetry
Jim Crow divided the team like a tidal wave
Brandon Lee Crow tragically sent to early grave
and Charlie Crow had to fly off to trade.
Elle and Bonzo are the Ace and Joker in the Pack
We were now two players short, so I had a word with Bob, and he called a time-out. I rushed over to Elle and Bonzo, who were already on the edge of their seats.
I quickly taught them the skills of shapeshifting, and they got the hang of it in no time. Elle Crow and Bonzo Crow joined the fray without delay.
Bonzo made his presence known in no time, with some crunching tackles in the middle of the park that were reminiscent of Blackport’s Nipper Lawrence in his prime.
It was from one of those that he won the ball, and then proceeded to dribble it past and through more legs than I could count, before slotting it straight under Redglove’s outstretched leg for our equaliser.
A Thrilling Finish to the Game
It was 3-3 with ten minutes remaining, and everything to play for. Our timewager didn’t include extra-time, so it was vital we found a winner before the end of rhyme.
But the Redbacks attacked straight from the kick-off, and moved the ball about so silkily that it looked as if it was stuck to their feet on a sticky web. They were soon inside our penalty area and threatening to score a winner of their own.
However, our goalie, Crow Nation, flew up to the top corner and not only saved the shot but also gathered it in its outstretched wing. It quickly threw the ball the length of the field.
Elle was upfield and onto it like a natural bird. She reached the ball before the Redback full-back and sent it flying over the stranded Redglove to put us in the lead. It was a great use of her bird body, and the Crows fans flew into a state of euphoria.
There was hardly time to restart the game, and the final whistle gave us the Crows victory we needed.

Connections of Life, Nature and Universe in Arts and Science
Hi, it’s Harry Silhouetteof-Wolfhowlingonhill. There was a great greenygrey start to Brian Cox’s new BBC life and nature documentary Wonders of Life first episode: What is Life?
Yes, that was the first image of the documentary, as you can see from the 00.01 time. It could have been a long-lost greenygrey world for all I could decipher. And I wasn’t that far off. It was a dragonfly’s eye in an insect greenygrey world; known as a pond by humans.
It would soon metamorphise into a nice bright pretty colourful dragonfly, as Greenygreys can shapeshift; but dragonflies only do it once in their short lives; leaving its greenygrey past (as seen in the image) in the background, and fly out above the plants and water into the sun.
It was a promising start to Wonders of Life, and nice to see Brian did a great grass and shirt greenygrey photo shoot for the series cover shot.
I’d have preferred a wolf pup of course.

First-Half Analysis for Match of the Day in Oz
Hi, it’s G.G. Howling, literary correspondent at the Greenygrey, with analysis of the first-half of the Crows v Redbacks game.
Wow, wasn’t it a thrilling first half. Almost as thrilling as yesterday’s F.A. Cup games, with Leeds beating Spurs, Oldham beating Liverpool and Brentford drawing with Chelsea on a weekend when the magic of the cup seemed to materialise again.
Redback Magic Downs Crows
There was plenty of magic for the Redbacks too, as they scurried into a 3-0 half-time lead. This was of course bad news for the Crows and our travelling trio, as Grey, Elle and Bonzo need a Crows win to escape the tumult following the timequake that sent them tumbling as they travelled into Oz’s Adelaide, South Australia.
The travelling trio’s troubles seemed destined to me from the first headline and paragraph of the episode, which seem to have been created simply to have a rhyme for ‘First half is a laugh…’
This failure to take the Redback threat seriously seemed to materialise in the second paragraph, when the Crows failed to counter the need for names with a red connection to create laughs for the first half.
Therefore, three goals were quickly scored by the Redbacks without reply. Red-grave buried the first; the second went in with a roar by Red-din; and finally Red-burn fanned the flames of defeat for the Crows with third.
Game of Two Halves
Much-needed hope was given to the Crow cause at half-time, when the travelling trio remembered their sporting tactics and terminology.
Bonzo thought of playing the ball in the air instead of on the ground, those two well-known opposite tactical styles; and Grey soon went from feeling sick as a parrot to being over the moon; probably the two most famous football post-match interview cliches (and feeling over the moon is even better for a werewolf than a sportsperson!).
Looks like it’s going to be an interesting second-half, with kick-off here scheduled for Wednesday
No Match of the Day to Watch, so Read this Tosh
Hi, it’s Greenygrey. With this the last day of the weekend and only one Werewolf of Oz: Fantasy Travel by Google Maps episode so far this week, it is undoubtedly time for another one. And with no Match of the Day this week due to it being an F.A. Cup weekend this episode seems super timely.
The ‘Tosh’ of the headline is slang for nonsense/rubbish by the way. There are some very important cup games today of course, and hopefully they’ll be even more exciting than this blog… although the blog is quite thrilling too.
This episode covers the first half of the Crows v Redbacks game that the travelling trio’s timesanity depends on, after they bet that Crows would win the game with Theold Gumtree, who holds their timedestiny in the balance.
Like the Greenygrey, the AusRuIcket game is made up of two halves. Here’s the first:

Wager laid, we rushed over to the pitch for the start of the game.
First Half is a Laugh… For a Redback Giraffe
After the game started, it was immediately plain to see, what a great spectacle it would be. There were thousands of Crows and Redbacks supporters cheering on their teams. The biggest contingent of Redbacks supporters seemed to be giraffes, while most Crows fans were llamas.
The Redbacks took an early lead when Redgrave buried the ball between the posts. They soon extended their lead through Reddin, inspiring a roar from the Redback end like nothing you’ve heard before. Just before half-time, Redburn seemed to fan the flames of our misfortune when it extended the Redbacks lead.
Grey Joins in with the Murder of Crows
I wondered if all was lost, but Bonzo thought he spotted a weakness in the Redbacks defence; suggesting they looked open to attack from above. He thought the Crows should use their aerial prowess, instead of trying to play it on the ground.
I saw the logic in Bonzo’s strategy, but couldn’t think of a way to put it into practise on the ground… and air! It was murder trying to formulate a plan for a collection of crows that looked rooted on the wrong side of a ruthless Redbacks streak.
The worry made me feel as sick as a parrot; but that negative was turned into a positive when it inspired me to remember my ability to shapeshift. I told the others I was off to join the Crows, before quickly changing into one. They wished me luck as I flapped for the field. Rather than feeling like a sick parrot, I now felt like I could fly over the moon. I hoped my elevated mood would lift the Crows, and once on the pitch:
I squawked my views on second-half play,
told them it was vital to our right of way,
before volunteering as Crow Grey,
to join the sporting fray.
They accepted my offer, and I lined up for the second-half.

Wild Wolf Photo Star of Independent Chernobyl Wildlife
Hi, it’s Chris Packwolf, nature and wildlife correspondent at the Greenygrey. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised to see a great greenygrey photo of a wolf in the wild on the BBC‘s morning news paper round-up from today’s Independent newspaper.
The sad part is that it is inside the Chernobyl environment, which was said to still have a radiation problem after the nuclear fallout of 1986. No humans have returned, so wildlife is said to be thriving there.
The best news is that the animals studied there are not showing any signs of deformities from the radiation. In an ideal world, humans will soon return and live in harmony with the wildlife that is acting as a safety scout.
Lost Land of the Tiger Documentary Controversy
Marc Latham’s new Lost Land of the Tiger BBC documentary article for Suite 101 was going to be the headline news today, but the greenygrey wild wolf story scooped the top story spot this morning. There’s never a dull moment at the Greenygrey.
It’s still a very interesting article though, with the amazing documentary leading to an intriguing controversy. Hopefully it won’t distract from the most important issue raised: conserving tigers and other wildlife.

Hi, it’s Baron Wolfman. I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s thrillingly poetic episode of Werewolf of Oz, and are now ready for some great greenygrey art. Remember Wally B’s Marauder t-shirt at the end of Rainbow Valley in a previous episode. It’s relevance is revealed in this episode; or that’s what the travelling trio hope anyway…
With 142 chapters in the Werewolf of Oz, there’s only 100 more to go after this. And the literary nonsense just keeps flowing…
42. TIME TO THINK…
Time will make you Wait, and never be Late
Tick, tock, tick, tock,
time waits for nobody
even in a state of stagnancy
of an alien world strange city.
Crows can fly
redbacks scurry by
if they fought beyond Y
which one would die?
It’s a dilemma, my oh my,
could easily induce a cry.
What temperature is ice meltable?
No, their choice is more hypothetical
than some real world conundrum
that is scientifically measurable.
We cannot help, or advise,
for our words would become lies
in a land where time waits for no-one
and only flies when it’s having fun.
Had time stood still? It certainly seemed so, and I was none the wiser. Then Elle looked up and pointed to the Marauder t-shirts; before reminding us that Wally B had said he thought they’d be useful in Oz South.
Tension was replaced by relief, as we looked at each other with knowing grins. Elle confirmed my thoughts, ‘Crows are birds, and the Marauder t-shirt features a bird image, so according to Wally B theory, the Crows will win.’
We rushed over to Theold Gumtree
and said we’d wager our timesanity
on Crows to beat Redbacks
confident we’ll make tracks
back to our own place in history…
