Heart is Where the ear Feels at Home

The above poem image uses a shenel (my genius word within a word invention), paraphrasing the proverb that:

‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.’;

mixing it with the common opening to a word of advice:

‘A word in your ear…’

3 letters completing a word h(ear)t is probably always going to be worth more than the first two letters without another to complete a word h(ea)d;

thinking of Monopoly myself, where you buy houses and then a hotel; the letters in the shenel phrase (e, a and r) are like houses, and the complete word like a hotel.

*The heading wordplays the phrase ‘Home is where the heart is.’

Parody Satire wordplay COMEDY

Negotiating with my mega Hollywood agent; recommended by H&M, no less; I said: ‘without me there would be no more comedy!’.
He turned around to me and shouted, ‘Without me there would be no co-me-dy at all!!’
I said, ‘Okay Cody, pipe down!!!’
Co-me-dy, get it!?

The above was an example of a shenel; my wordplay, as well as parody comedy.

X-fILES ALIEN UFO ‘I WANT TO BELIEVE’ POSTER CODE CRACKED?

Alien was one of my first shenels (words within words, like nut shell and kernel), with lie within it; but seeing the above poster last week (usually seen in Mulder’s office in X-Files) in a report about UFOs and aliens I suddenly realised lie is right in the middle of believe too. Alien is a perfect five-letter shenel, and believe is a seven letter one!

Someone’s lying about aliens, but I don’t know who to believe! I want to believe though!!

*As I was linking to shenel above two of the three suggested pages were alien and believe! I remembered alien, but didn’t remember believe!! Then over a year on, they were finally linked together by seeing that poster again!!!

3 free poetry e-books 4 midwinter christmas

A cloudy day today, but the sun still shone through a gap on the horizon, before disappearing into the grey. A few bits of poetic philosophical thought from the last couple of days on Facebook:

Yesterday’s final post-sunrise thoughts:

Collected anagram evidence birth:
threadbare – read breath.
Reined in the berserk.
Returning to Earth.
Mountain trees sea surf.
I think that’s quite enough!

This morning:

A shenel poem (blending shell and kernel for words with another inside):

My h-ear-t has an inner ear,
unwrapping the pea in the pod
of communication you call s-pea-k,
preserving them in a g-row-n row.
(there was an appropriate image on Facebook, and here the alternative colour to black and grey was green!)

Prompted by an MSN article:

Don’t want to be a falien (blending fail-alien); mistake a message from E.T., give away proximity, possibly from Proxima Centauri: Goldilocks #1!
Seriously, if E.T. is contacting me without clarity, it’s difficult to aprende… if they want me to pass it on or keep it secret; if its intentional or accidental; good or evil; trick or treat; I guess I’ll never know… unless we physically meet..!?
P.S. Nice retro greenYgrey image for the new POP age leading the article!

3 Free E-Books

If you like some of the above, I’ve put my last poetry collection and the second of the greenYgrey fantasy fiction trilogy, which also includes a lot of poetry, into the Smashwords end of year sale, so the e-books are free to download and read until New Year.

The third of the greenYgrey trilogy is also free to read with an Amazon Prime account through Kindle Unlimited, and you can take out a free trial membership.

Sleep to Live, Live to Sleep!

Inspired by yesterday’s post, I’ve rebranded myself from Running Wolf to Sleeping Koala.
I’m totally rebelling against rock’s anti-sleep agenda (such as Bon Jovi’s Sleep When I’m Dead and Motorhead’s No Sleep Til Hammersmith); although Faster Pussycat’s Wake Me When It’s Over sounds acceptable!

The above reminded me of another similar Facebook post, and I think the two of them together qualify for a blog post, although my conscientiousness (spelt correctly first time!) does somewhat contradict the sleepy apathy theme!

a-path-y: example of my new shenel (shell-kernel) words within words concept.
apathy: only way for me, or encouraged by society?.. at least it keeps me relatively free… like Janis Joplin and Bobby McGee!
Ironically, that society-induced apathy (for my poor ol’ white creativity) makes me not bother to follow the shenel path; or maybe its Jimmy Carr making fun of Susie Dent’s word books on (UK TV’s) 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown!?

Thanks to whoever read my work on Smashwords recently; the beyond sleepyapathyness of this blog post is dedicated to you!

I’ll end this blog (in concert mode now!) with a sleep adapted song; by adapting Lesley Gore’s It’s My Party (and I’ll)… [change cry to SLEEP; alternatively, keeping both for cry to sleep!]…(if I want to…):

Alien Origin – Shenel Document Revealed

Shenel – proposal for the naming of a word containing others within its two outer letters.
The name derives from combining (blending or portmanteau) the first three letters of shell and last three of kernel, as in nut. The beginning also, inadvertently on my conscious part, connotates femininity through the pronoun she; that retrospectively made me think the shenel words also resemble a pregnant female carrying a smaller entity. Introspectively, apologies to females if you think I should have thought about you before nuts!
As with most nuts and pregnancies, there is usually one within the outer, but sometimes there are twins, or more. Also, as there are classic shaped nuts, or wonky ones, the shenel can be a classic, such as a kernel word filling all the letters between the shell’s outer ones, or an imperfect one, like the wonky range of fruit and vegetables now featured in supermarkets.
Examples:
aLIEn
yOUTh
tRUTh
deFINITEly
I later researched my concise dictionary, like the PhD graduate I am, and found hundreds of examples.

Is it worth proceeding further? Are you interested in more shenels?
