sun hugs southern horizon now for NORTHERN HEMISPHERE

#mYm20 philosophical thinking:

Seeing the sunrise and sunset now both in the southern sky, as in yesterday’s photos, I was thinking that in the northern hemisphere it is now like we’re looking back at the sun in our rear (north to south) as we might see a landmark travelling farther into the distance after we’ve passed it in a vehicle, and now it’s visible through the rear window.

In our ‘summer’ it’s as if we’re travelling towards a landmark, seeing it get closer and brighter in front of us (north to north) up until the ‘summer solstice’, when we ‘pass it’. It then starts receding into our ‘rear view mirror’ again, back down to the ‘southern horizon’.

If our planet wasn’t spinning around, giving us days and nights when we’re facing the sun or away from it, and we were on the side facing the sun, in a place where sunrise/sunset is always visible, we’d see its movement all the time; or our movement around it in reality; rather than mostly measuring its movement in sunrises and sunsets.

Hemisphere Seasons Reasons: Hemispheasons?!

As seen in this Planets Today orrery, Earth is now at 1 o’ clock on a normal clock face, with the northern hemisphere pointed towards deep space with our planet’s 23.4 axial tilt. That is why we have winter and less daylight. We are like a reclining human looking back down their body. In contrast Earth’s south is now directly facing the sun, giving it their summer.

In 6 months of ‘our time’ we’ll be at 7 o’ clock on a normal clock face, with our north facing the sun and where we are now at ‘1 o’ clock’. We will be like a reclining human facing the sun, while our planet’s south will be pointed out towards space, and they will be looking back over the Earth’s body to the sun.

sun’s beauty is clear

Facial features for reasons, Earth has seasons, circling star, whose beauty: clear!

Following up the last post about Nordic blondes being like runway lights guides to the sunny twilight sky for the greenYgrey: when I saw the sun is usually white as seen on Earth, and its shine yellow; and remembering some research about female facial beauty being about featurelessness; I thought that could be why I’d thought the classic Nordic look is the most beautiful, as it most resembled the sun amongst humanity.

So all that time I was looking for a perfect human face….

… was I was really looking for the sun?

The sun and I have been happily married for two and a half years, after a romantic elopement to Gretna Green… which sounds like greenYgrey; another link in the path to marital bliss!?

The last of the greenYgrey trilogy was published just over a year before, with a sun beyond humanity theme; another link? I found out along the way; or remembered; that the subject of the travel quest, Andy Warhol (werewolfised into Andy Wolfhol), was also searching for featureless female faces for his pop art. POP of course developed into PinkyOrangePurple twilight time colours along the XaW Files way…

While the links may have been getting stronger in the last fifteen years, the sun has always been a big part of my life, in more ways than one!

LIFE ON PLUTO? CLOSER LOOK OPENS INTEREST

Armstrong’s first steps for humanity were like a baby reaching a doorway; humanity hasn’t taken many more, or left our small room.

“New Horizons transformed Pluto from a fuzzy telescopic dot, into a living world with stunning diversity and surprising complexity,”

I was recently alerted to a new image of Pluto by a BBC Horizon documentary (available in the UK on iplayer for another 19 days), and a further search led to a NASA article with research from a historic fly-by five years ago, where that Pluto quote derives from (and the BBC documentary too!).

My Neil Armstrong ‘one small step… one giant leap for mankind’ quote introduction was inspired by a Facebook image.

Pluto Interest Close Up

I think the new Pluto evidence is a good example of how there are zillions more things about the universe we don’t know than we do (as Socrates said the wisest people are those who know they know little 2500 years ago), as we take our first baby steps in the universe… with no chance of humans reaching Pluto in our lifetimes.

While the technology used is amazing and I really appreciate them sharing, there’s no plans to go back to find out more, although they’re trying to work out how a lander could work, and how to get funding!

Humanity’s advances in my lifetime have been amazing, but for most things we’re still trying to work out what’s going in the far distance by sight and theory only – often trying to make calculations from other places, like ancient sailors may have thought all islands on Earth had the same flora and fauna!?

A field just looks green, lifeless and barren from afar, but when you get up close, you see all the colours, life and contours. I think it’s the same in space, as the Pluto evidence suggests; and who knows what’s over the ‘New Horizons’!?

It was also partly what I was writing about; along with personal and Earthly matters; in my fantasy fiction and philosophical introspection magnum opus…

Werewolf of Oz: Fantasy Travel by Google Maps Free Ebook

I’ve made my old book (2012) that light-heartedly twists the Wizard of Oz theme into one of good pagans and bad monotheists; inspired by the Homes Children historic child abuse being uncovered by Margaret Humphreys (told in the Oranges and Sunshine book and film, starring Emily Watson; as well as ‘nice’ movies like Crocodile Dundee and Australia) and the industrial scale street grooming (much of it targeting Homes Children) largely uncovered at the time. It has a veggie werewolf hero and lots of anthropomorphic characters travelling Australia; and a body, mind and spirit theme replacing heart, brain and courage; free on Smashwords (need a free account) as part of their coronavirus Authors Give Back promotion. Dream Memory Written Raw Through Coffee

Write from the brain
bean eases strain
remembering dream
something scream:

It’s there to learn
so burn, burn, burn.
(my interpretation, mixing The Doors’ Light  My Fire
with computer burning)

But what use will it be
stored in memory
nobody wants to know
three pages in a row?
(I do remember turning the page, and it having writing or symbols on it; and I think learning at least one page – the one I turned over onto I think, and the ‘tutor’ saying something like ‘See, you can do it if you try’)

Show don’t tell
knowledge not hell
concentrate to read
mindfulness seed
if it sinks to bottom
reassuring totem.

Searching Wikipedia totem clarification
I find ‘tutelary’ guardian in the description.
Was that the main lesson of the dream/nightmare:
‘seeing/remembering’ my tutor for the first time?
But was I meant to remember what I read?
Or was it a test to see if I’d guess instead?

Fatboy Slim Closes mistYmuse 2019/20

We’re overtime on mistYmuse 2019/20 now, as we started early in October last year – it runs for the traditionally toughest four months of the year weather-wise, and puts a good spin on it by focusing on the late sunrises in the first two months, and increasing light in the second half.

British Summer Time to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) / UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)

In October the sunrises seemed to be getting towards the late sunrise times of mid-December, which are ideal for the start of most people’s days, being between 8-9am across the UK; as well as giving more darkness for sleep.

As I wrote in a blog here on fmpoetry (October 22nd), focusing on the Leeds time, mistYmuse central!:

‘The sunrise times will reach their BST late peak on Saturday October 26th at 07.53, and with the clocks going back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)/(UTC) overnight, they’ll go back to 06.55 – back earlier than the sunrise time of September 25th (06.56).
They’ll continue getting later a couple of minutes a day, and will reach Saturday’s sunrise time of 07.53 again just over a month later on November 27th.’

GMT/UTC to BST

Now, in contrast, we changed from GMT/UTC to BST  last week, moving the clocks forward an hour from 05.48 on the 28th March, to 06. 45 on the 29th March; with the three minutes difference the normal process for this time of year.

The sunrises (really the time when we can see the sun, due to our planet’s axis tilt and orbit around our star, according to astronomy) continue getting about three minutes earlier (as if we’re climbing a stairs in a skyscraper for a better view, with each day a step).

As it took just under a month to get back to the time before the hour clock change in October/November, it will reach the March 28th/29th time of 05.48 over the 22nd to 23rd April: 5.49 to 5.46.

So enjoy the darker mornings and later sunrises this month, and for all those who’ve completed mistYmuse 2019/20 I praise you! (it seems a long time since Scooter opened it!!):

Try not to look directly at the sun; or spend too much time in front of screens.. and avoid groomers and covid like the plague!

Looking on the bright side, I read there’s a bright new comet in the sky that should be visible to the naked eye soon…

Knowing your Horizon; Coronavirus Contagion Comparison; Washing Hands

The note I made 18 months ago that came in useful on Saturday, for my last sunrise b4 BST photos, with the sunrise then at 83 degrees east; so I knew it would be visible:

My Public Health Contribution

Coronavirus hand-washing: a guide as I understand it.
While avoiding people’s breath seems clear, how the virus survives on surfaces has had mixed messages so far.
As I understand it, it’s if somebody with coronavirus has left it on a surface, which you then touch, and then touch a part of your body open to the inside: mouth, nose etc, and I presume cuts etc.
So you only really need to wash your hands if you’ve touched something that may have coronavirus on it: when you’ve been out, or brought something from the outside in. It’s supposed to survive on hard surfaces longer than soft, but only for hours, up to 72.
So if you haven’t been out for 72 hours and not brought anything in, you should be safe, and not have to stress about washing hands all the time.

Contagion Movie and Coronavirus Reality

I watched Contagion (2011) on ITV4 last week; inspired by the coronavirus outbreak, as I hadn’t watched it before!; and it had a lot of similarities with what’s happened with coronavirus: especially it starting in the Chinese animal food chain: Screen Rant comparison between the two.

I think Chinese culture has a lot of positives, especially the martial arts exercise and philosophy; pandas and eco initiatives; but really think they could improve their food chain; as the whole world could.

Blogging and Writing

Unlike the blogger in Contagion, I’ve tried to really provide an entertaining public service model, which is one of the reasons I haven’t made much money.

Blogging has also been useful to me for getting my views down as they happen, so I can look back on them. Today, I remembered blogging criticism of Boris Johnson (‘Well, the Chinese are showing us that that is the approach we have got to have in the future.” https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2464791/Boris-Johnson-takes-dramatic-helicopter-flight-Hong-Kong.html) and George Osbourne for wanting a ‘Chinese-style’ high development country when they visited China and Hong Kong in 2013; it was also criticised in The Guardian!

I advertise my books because I believe in them, and always will; although they have largely been ignored, as far as I know! I have been ready to hand the baton over to Greta Thunberg and her Children of the Quorn since she arrived over the horizon (linking at the last moment to the original topic in this blog post; previously unforeseen and unplanned, in true spontaneous prose style!).

Sunrise Before BST puts Clocks Forward an Hour

Last sunrise before British Summer Time (BST) starts tomorrow, with the clocks being put forward an hour overnight. So this morning’s sunrise was 05.48 and tomorrow’s will be 06.45 (going earlier 3 minutes really, apart from the hour change, all the way back to 04.35 (03.35 really) on the June summer solstice).

The sunrise is just south of the big tree marking my visibility boundary and a long way from the buildings it rose between on March 6th, just over 3 weeks ago. They are shown in the third photo.

The Time and Date website says today’s sunrise position is 83 degrees east. At the December solstice it was 131 degrees east, which is over the park focused on in the original photos more than a decade ago, and south of the city centre, visible at the bottom of the cover photo. The buildings in the above photo (and March 2nd and 6th) are north of the city centre.

On the June summer solstice the sunrise will be at 46 degrees east. Those figures don’t mean much to me either, but if you can remember them, and where the sun or moon are when they rise on them, you can know where the sunrise or moonrise is going to be in the future; as I did this morning, as the first time I used them was to record a moonrise in that location!
