mazzy star muse poem

Most beautiful paths,
are all in the mind.
Never to be seen,
for they’re all behind.
Travelled deep n’ high,
from my start of time.
United as a whole,
roundabout dead-end blind.

With mistYmuse 20/21 finishing last week I had no plans to write creatively. I saw this video looping one of my favourite songs (since seeing it on MTV a lot in 1994) and played it:

That inspired me to think I still don’t know the words, and so I set about listening and learning, using genius lyrics. Like a bucket list I didn’t have, it’s the first time I’ve set out to learn a song’s lyrics!

I think one of the reasons I love Hope Sandoval’s voice is that she turns words into music as if letting a bird fly away, or throwing dust in the air, from something known and familiar to ephemeral air flying out of sight, trailing speckles of imagination.

In an interview I just saw as well, she describes this as bending the notes.

After thinking I had something creative flying around, like Hope’s lyrics in the sky; the generator of my mind being wound up, or an old plane’s propeller; the above poem came in to land while watching/listening to the California song:

Guitarist David Roback; as well as Hope’s voice, I particularly love the slide guitar; died a year ago last month. I didn’t know until seeing a list of who’d died in 2020 at the end of the year on the loudersound website. That inspired me to listen to them more again.

Maybe he’s looking down, from where his songs fly around?

Featured image is Nytt Land. Combining it with Mazzy Star; after playing FIY on loop; made me realise how shamanically hypnotic Mazzy Star can be!

Beatles Song Inspiration and Inspiring Video

Collie in the Sky over Diomedes
remembered with respect
a certain song by
McCartneyLennon
that contained yellow and green
but no grey.

Hi, it’s Howlin’ Werewolf, music correspondent at the Greenygrey inspired by legendary Blues singer Howlin’ Wolf.

The title of the first XaW Files blog reminded me of a certain Beatles song. When I found a video for the song on YouTube I also found lots of great greenygrey imagery I’m sure ol’ Andy Wolfhol would’ve admired.

While the lyrics of the song missed out grey

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
Towering over your head

the video has lots of all kinds of greenygrey. I hope you like it… I think it’s aWsome… and there’s a little more aWsomeness after it…

You know, before he left, I’ll never forget ol’ Wolfhol telling me:

My mind has travelled far
but the telescopes overtook me.

Maybe he’s out there flying with the telescopes.

Marc Latham has books available on Smashwords and Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/author/marclatham), including previous Greenygrey’s rambles.
